Peggy Marie (Thompson) Doph passed away peacefully on July 30, 2015. We are all so grateful that every one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were able to say good bye with their individual expressions of love. She was born March 28,1926 to Joel and Zeta Thompson in Markham, Washington.
Peggy grew up in Everett, spending time with her sisters,Vernis, Bernis and Betty. While growing up during the Depression years, the Everett Public Library was a great source of happiness in their lives. This inspired Peggy’s love of reading that continued her entire life.
Before Peggy graduated from Everett High School in 1944, she met the love of her life, on June 25, 1943. It was love at first sight, and she and Bert were married on January 5, 1945. Their 62 year marriage was a beautiful inspiration to their children, grandchildren, and all that knew them.
Armed with the inspiration from her father that “she could be the President of the United States or be anything that she put her mind to” she set on the path of becoming a successful woman. Peggy started her working years at Everett Trust and Savings Bank. In 1946 she put her career on hold so that she and Bert could start their family. Upon returning to work she became that successful woman by working up to the position of a Vice President. Peggy made a career change in 1982 founding the Peggy Doph Agency, a marketing and public relations firm.
Through the years, Peggy was known as a pillar and guide for many in the community. Some of Peggy’s interests included; The General Hospital Foundation, Hospice of Snohomish County, Arts Council of Snohomish County, Everett Community College, Edmonds Community College, Washington Press Association, United Way, and Navy League. There are many more associations and committees that are too numerous to mention. In 1993 she was chosen as one of Everett’s “Centennial Citizens”.
She took great pride in providing a loving home life for Bert and their children. Activities that Peggy enjoyed included; gardening, sewing, canning, traveling (local and abroad), camping at the ocean, baking, attending functions and sports events for their children and grandchildren, reading and dancing with Bert.
Peggy will be remembered for her tenacity, work ethic, quick wit, her love of the Arts and Music, attention to detail in everything she touched and her friendship and compassion for others.
Peggy leaves behind her three children, Nancy (Norm) Lang and their daughter, Mollie Marie, Jan (Jim) Gaffney and their children Joe (Ashley) Gaffney and their children, Keegan, Delaney, Camden and Madigan, Jaclyn Gaffney and her daughter Sydney Piekarski, Jason Gaffney and his daughter Olivia, Jennifer Gaffney and her son Brayden, Mike (Selvy) Doph and Mike's children, Aaron Doph his children, Damon, Jayden, Tay and Mya, Nicole (Jesse) Bruce and their children, James, Macaela and Taylor. Mom, Thank you for our beautiful childhood and the example of a beautiful marriage, knowing that you loved each other and always told us that you loved your life. We will all carry your love in our hearts and carry your legacy on in our children.
All said…Peggy was a woman truly ahead of her time.
