A year has nearly passed and I’m just now finding out. My family lived next door to the Hampson’s from 1966 to 1990. I was much younger than Murray and during the early to mid1970’s as a small child I seemed to spend a lot of time at their house. Going to church every Sunday with him and his mother, Veda.  Murray was a good sport often let me and sometimes my older brother tag along on bus trips to downtown Seattle to take care of business or walks up to White Center. One of my favorite outings we got to go up to the top floor of the Sea First building downtown. At the time it was the tallest building in Seattle.  We both had poor vision, his a bit worse than mine but we both seemed to bump into things if we were not careful. I remember once we were walking up Roxbury street to White Center and somehow we both managed to bump into the same telephone pole a few seconds apart. 

Murray gave me some of my best childhood memories and my thoughts are with his wife, sister Nancy and friends and family.

Dear Vivian,

I’ve been thinking of you and praying for you these past few days.  I pray that you’ll find comfort in your memories of the good man you’re married to, and in the certainty of eternal union with him.  

I love Murray.  His friendship was constant and purely sincere.   I felt spiritually refreshed by his humility and enjoyed his sense of humor.  Knowing Murray was a gift from God.  I also look forward to seeing him on the other side.  

We had a lot of good times together.  I met him in the 1970’s in the University 2nd Ward. I really got to know him well in the 1980’s when we were living in the Big House.   

Murray took me down to the Lighthouse for the Blind and showed me the place he worked all those years.  And of course he told me about the time when he punched out the meanest co-worker in the factory.

I was at his dad’s funeral.  Murray gave a moving expression of love.  I was also in the temple when Murray got sealed to his parents.  I was proxy for his father.  It was an honor to be there, a special moment of my life.

We had the most fun times when we lived together in his condo and attended the Lake Washington Ward together.  (You remember that, of course.). We watched “Dallas” and “Walker, Texas Ranger.”  I think we saw all the episodes.

It was great to see him get married to such a good lady!  I could tell it was a happy marriage.  I was glad that you could share your love with the little girl you fostered.  I enjoyed our times together.  Thanks for including me in your lives.   And thanks for the great meals!  😊

As I write this letter, I feel a lot of gratitude for a special long-time friend.   I’ve been praying for you and Murray.

Sorry we didn't get to say goodbye to Murray.  He will always be admired and loved for his courage and faith.
Hang in there, Vivian.  We are so sorry for this unexpected loss for you.  But we are happy he was prepared.
Your strong faith and support of those around you will get you through this.
We will miss seeing Murray on our Tues Physiq Zooms.  What a wonderful man.

Murray had a heart of gold and was welcome fixture in the neighborhood.   I always enjoyed chatting with him in the street while he was putzing around with things.   I shall miss him ...

The memories I have of Uncle Murray are those of his love for his family. Murray was always a family first man and always looked out for my mom, his sister Nancy.  Murray was a man that overcame many hard trials and obstacles. I am thankful for his example.  My prayers and thoughts are with you Vivian.
