Mary Ann Hards, 92, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on March 13, 2025, in Lynnwood, Washington. Born to Ernest and Beulah Jimeson on April 22, 1932, in Hiawatha, Kansas, Mary lived a life filled with joy, style, and love.
Growing up on her parents' farm instilled a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for nature. Mary was a spirited cheerleader in high school, capturing hearts not only with her school spirit but also when she was crowned the Halloween Queen in her hometown beauty contest.
Mary married her true love, Delmar "Del" Hards, in 1950 in Reserve, Kansas. Together, they embarked on a new journey in Seattle in 1953. Mary began her career at Best shoes in downtown Seattle, which would later become Nordstrom. Her impeccable taste in fashion was evident not only in her extensive and enviable shoe collection but also in her stylish presence that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Beyond her professional life, Mary was a talented seamstress, with the ability to craft beautiful garments and create wonderful memories through her handiwork. She enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends, particularly savoring long walks on the beach while collecting seashells and driftwood.
Mary and Del cherished their winters in Yuma, where they found warmth and community during the colder months. An artistic soul, Mary loved to paint, expressing her creativity on canvases that captured the beauty she saw in the world around her.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Mary worked alongside her husband at their independent insurance agency as his diligent secretary. Together, they built a successful family business in Seattle, contributing positively to their community. A devoted gardener, Mary found peace and inspiration in nature’s beauty, tending lovingly to her garden throughout her life.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love through her family, her daughter, Janelle (Brian) Dempsey; son, Collin (Colleen) Hards; and grandchildren, Dustin Ahlf, Ashley (Jack) Hansen, and Nathan (Maura) Hards. Her great-grandchildren, Reuben and Norah Hansen, brought her immense joy. She is also fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Frances Owen and Maxine Corbet and her husband, Delmar "Del" Hards.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Anny and the caregivers at Madison Adult Family for the tender and compassionate care offered to Mary over the past six years. Mary's radiant smile, kind heart, and vibrant spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
An urn committal service for Mary will be held Monday, March 31, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St, Kent, WA 98042.
