Mary Elaine Burgess

Mary Elaine always had a song in her heart, a shoulder to lean on and a helping hand to lend. Born in 1928, to Rosie & Edith Erickson, she lived her entire life in Everett and was a fixture of hope and charity in Snohomish County. After Everett High School she graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon where she met Jack Burgess, her husband of 66 years.

The couple returned to Everett, soon married and went to work at the family furniture store, Erickson Brothers. It still operates today on Broadway.

They raised 5 children: John (Darlene) Burgess, Jan (Jon) Fortier, Jim (Dixie) Burgess, MJ (Todd) Benner & Matthew Burgess.

They spoiled 8 amazing grandchildren: JJ & Kyle Burgess - Katie Benner - Jeremy, Jason & Jordan Mooring - Kanoe Goffin and 10 great-grandchildren.

The church was of vital importance to Mary Elaine. She attended First Baptist of Everett and served in several leadership positions. Through both the church and Everett Assistance League she carried on her family's legacy of helping those who were less fortunate or just needed a hand.

Jack & Mary Elaine loved to travel. Some of her favorite trips included: Sweden, Israel, South Pacific, Italy, European River Cruises and Hawaii.

Her parents, 2 brothers Jim & Don Erickson and infant child Gregory all preceded her in death and are now reunited in Heaven.

Additional Organization to which she belonged: Operation School Bell - Everett Women's Book Club - SAM (Senior Adult Ministry) - Moon On A (Model A Club) - Cub Scouts (Den Mother) - Sigma Kappa Phi sorority at Linfield College.

The memorial service will be held at 3pm, March 19 at First Baptist Church of Everett. 1616 Pacific Avenue, Everett - 98201.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church or The Assistance League.

Mary Elaine Burgess, age 94, of Everett, Washington passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Mary was born February 13, 1928 in Everett, Washington.
