Leslie Louise Borneman Wiser of Everett, Washington, died on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Leslie was born on January 23, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana. She grew up in nearby Elkhart and Mishawaka, Indiana, but lived her last nearly 40 years in Washington state.
A fiercely loving mother, Leslie is survived by three children, Cameron McLaughlin (Nell McNamara) of Oak Park, IL, Quinn McLaughlin (Matthew Rassmussen) of Shoreline, WA, and Kramer Rivera (Megan Hyde Rivera) of Snohomish, WA. Leslie is preceded in death by her dear son, Jarrett Ian McLaughlin. An adoring grandmother, “Grandmere” is survived by eight grandchildren (Jarrett, Thomas, Lowell, and Mara Mae Louise McLaughlin; Everett and Charlie Rasmussen; and Koen and Asher Rivera).
Leslie is also preceded in death by her parents, Martha Louise Wiser and William N. Wiser, and two siblings (William F. Wiser and Connie Maupin) – all of Indiana. She’s survived by her sister Michele Miller (Mishawaka, IN) and her Aunt Marjorie (Lancaster, WI).
Leslie was a force! She had strong opinions, kept up-to-date on current events, and enjoyed a healthy debate. She loved animals and nature – especially bald eagles and orca whales. She worked most of her career as an optician at Costco, an employer she respected greatly. Leslie loved the Pacific Northwest, the Westminster Kennel Club dog show, the Indianapolis 500, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and enjoyed a newfound love of bull riding. She was a sports fanatic generally, especially college football (Go Huskies!) and college basketball. Leslie was the cleanest person her children knew and they often joked about how the twice-monthly cleaning ladies who came to her apartment must have chuckled to themselves about getting paid to do nothing. Leslie had an eye for fashion and never missed a chance to shower her loved ones with stylish and thoughtful gifts. But most of all, Leslie loved her children and grandchildren beyond measure. She is forever in our hearts and we will miss her always.
Donations can be made in Leslie’s honor to Orca Conservancy or the National Audubon Society.
