John Charles Hardwick died Saturday, April 30, 2016 after a battle with cancer. John was born and raised in Seattle, the middle son of Dean and Elizabeth Hardwick. As a kid, John worked in the family business, Hardwick's on Roosevelt Way in the University District. Naturally shy, he laughingly admitted he spent most of his time trying to avoid rather than help customers there. John graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1964. He attended the University of Washington and the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1971. John joined the service and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Fort Meade, Maryland. After his two years in the Army, John came home to Seattle where he met Ramy Lloyd. They were married in 1977, the same year he began his private dental practice in the University District. John found great fulfillment in being a dentist. He enjoyed the friendships he made with his patients and staff during the 30 years he practiced dentistry. John loved his life. He loved his family. He enjoyed his many and varied hobbies, sports and interests. He truly loved the water. Living on Lake Washington, his passion was extended watching family and friends enjoy all his water toys as much as he did. He was an excellent snow skier, and took up snowboarding too so he could share it with his son. He liked to scuba dive, golf, and ride his motorcycles on curvy country roads. He liked to rise early to read his newspaper, drink his coffee, and watch the sun come up. He enjoyed travel through Europe, New Zealand, Egypt, Greece, Israel and Turkey. He spent his retirement with his wife taking long road trips throughout the United States. With his appreciation for all kinds of art, he was especially skilled at woodworking and metalworking - and liked combining the two. Most of all John loved his son, John, Jr. Nothing made him happier or gave him more joy than to spend time with his kid. His wife, Ramy, appreciated him most for his excellent sense of humor and quick wit. Generous with his talent, time, money, and toys, he was interested and interesting. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him, and especially by those he loved. Preceded in death by; his father Dean Earnest Hardwick, mother Elizabeth Mary (Herauf) Hardwick, daughter Elizabeth Dawn Hardwick, nephew Phillip Dean Hardwick, all of Seattle. He is survived by; his wife Ramy Dawn (Lloyd) Hardwick, son John Charles Hardwick, Jr, (Sarah), grandson John Charles Hardwick III, brothers William (Pennie) Hardwick and their children Amber (Edde) Kanai and Maribeth, Dean (Mary) Hardwick and their children Meghan, Paul, Erin and Claire, Mother-in-Law Corinne (Griffith) Lloyd, In-laws Noel (Kate) Lloyd and their children Chris Lloyd and Bryan Redecker, and numerous extended family members and beloved friends. A private family service is being held, but if anyone would like to honor him with remembrances they suggest donations be made to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance or Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in John's name. He would have loved that.
