Jeannette was born March 18, 1936, Jeannette Rae Smith in Bellingham Washington. The eldest of 3 children, they lived in Whatcom County until 1940 when they moved to their farm in Alger Washington. She attended Alger and Burlington schools and graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1954. From there she attended Skagit Valley Junior College and moved to Mt. Vernon after getting a job in an attorney’s office there. She decided to see the world outside of her home state and left to work in Washington DC and then later moved to San Francisco. She worked as a legal secretary and could take shorthand notes and type like the wind. It was always a family joke that it took her forever to tell a story because she could recall the most minute of details. She married Eugene Bolland in Seattle Washington on January 25, 1964, they were married for 55 years. Jeannette was a phenomenal cook, baker, and household finance manager. She was extremely generous with her time volunteering with her church, school, and community. After the last kid left the house, she went back to school attending Bellevue Community College where she also worked. They have 3 children, Duane, David, Jennifer and their grand-children, Elsa and Aidan. She passed peacefully on February 8, 2019.
