Gordon Ernest Bjorg, Sr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in Everett, WA. He was born in Seattle, WA, on May 29, 1945 to Olaf and Ragna Bjorg. He grew up locally in WA and also in Phoenix, AZ.
Gordon was raised in a large and close extended family spending fun times with all his cousins whom he loved dearly. He was a Boy Scout and had many jobs at a young age. He left school at 17 and joined the Navy and served in San Diego on the USS Monticello. He enjoyed boating his whole life. He was honorably discharged after 1½ yrs due to an injury. From there he went to Phoenix, AZ and was an ambulance driver for Phoenix Ambulance and x-ray technician for Good Samaritan Hospital. Gordon then returned to WA at 19 to be close to family and finish his schooling. He also started his sales career at the Kirby Co. with friend and mentor Al Berg. He worked also with Baker Ambulance. He started his career in Auto Sales at Holiday Olds in Everett and in 1970 became a manager for Roy Robinson Chevrolet and later partner, then Dealer Principal of Roy Robinson Chevrolet, Subaru and Motorhomes upon the passing of his mentor and best friend, Mr. Royal A. Robinson in 2001. Gordon was Dealer Principle until 2009 when he passed that responsibility through to Gordon Jr. Gordon loved to work and especially enjoyed all the special relationships he built with his employees, their families, and customers throughout the years.
Gordon and wife Carol (Taylor) have known each other since childhood as their families were neighbors and friends and have been together for over 48 years. During this time they welcomed two children, Shana Renee, in March 1968 & Gordon Ernest Jr., in March 1970.
Gordon was passionate about community involvement and was always quick to help out his favorite organizations in the area including, Providence General Foundation, many local youth sports teams and schools. Tulalip Boys and Girls club, and numerous local community causes. He was a proud Rotarian of Marysville Rotary, serving on the board and as President. He made so many wonderful friends in Rotary here and in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Along with enjoying the sun, boating and desert activities there, they acquired Windsor Beach Storage which their daughter runs today.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Carol, his children, Shana (Dan) Gutierrez, Gordy (Donna) Bjorg Jr.; three grandchildren, Brooke Gutierrez, Ryan & Gordon (Trey) Bjorg, III; brothers in law, Jim (Joy) Taylor, AZ., Marion (Patty) Taylor and Larry (Jewel) Taylor, Arlington, WA, numerous cousins, nephews & nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Ragna Bjorg and brothers, Ernest and Arne, brother in law, Marvin Taylor, and sister-in-law and brother in law, Janice and Bill Schumann.
A memorial service will be held at Bethany Christian Assembly, 2715 Everett Ave., Everett, WA at 3:00pm on Sunday, August 16, 2015, and celebration of Gordon’s life will follow at Xfinity Event Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave. Everett WA. from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Private Family Committal Service will be at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Everett, Washington.
Gordon‘s family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of Providence ICU, with special thanks to Ken and Chris for their kind and compassionate care of Gordon and his family during his final days, and Pastor Rollin Carlson for his friendship and guidance throughout Gordon’s life. They would also like to thank everyone for their friendship and support over the last two and half years. As he did with everything in life, he fought his cancer with strength and dignity, and will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gordon can be made to Providence General Foundation, The Humane Society, Wounded Warriors, or charity of your choice.
