Edith (Erga) Carlquist of Everett, WA passed away on December 21, 2018 at the age of 90 due to natural causes. A memorial service will be held at Everett Funeral Home (4504 Broadway, Everett, WA 98203) on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Noon with reception to follow and graveside service at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park. Edith was born on May 16, 1928, in Klepp, Jaren, Norway, to Magnus and Martha Erga, the first of five children. Edith immigrated to the United States with a friend at the age of 19. She was sponsored by her uncle and lived in Montana when she first arrived. She learned English after arriving in the US by attending school with school children. She moved to Seattle, Washington, and started working at the Firland Sanitorium. Edith met George Harold “Hank” Carlquist in 1950 at the Swedish Club. They married that same year and spent 63 happy years together until his death in 2014. Together the couple had three daughters. The family resided in Mount Vernon, Washington, from 1956 to 1975 and then moved to Everett. In Mount Vernon, Edith cleaned homes and then worked at the blood bank in the lab doing clean-up. She was a 43-year breast cancer survivor. Edith was a very active member of the Sons of Norway Normanna Lodge in Everett and served on many boards and committees. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Norway Thelma Lodge and only this last year reluctantly gave up making coffee for each meeting. Edith’s hobbies included playing pinochle, traveling, dancing, bowling, baking Norwegian goodies (especially krumkake), gardening, knitting, crocheting, and sharing pictures of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Hank, daughter Catherine Evans, her parents, and her brothers Joe and Kaare. Edith is survived by two daughters Carlene Sinnott (Russ) and Sandra Carlquist (Pete Maloney); grandchildren Jason Evans, Justin Sinnott, Kendra Evans Brito, Kirstin Sinnott Gerber, Kelsey Maloney Allen, and Katrina Maloney; as well as eleven great-grandchildren; and siblings Magne Erga and Lillian (Erga) Miller. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Sons of Norway Normanna Lodge Scholarship Fund, 2725 Oakes Ave, Everett, WA 98201.
