David Tilden Martinson was born July 4th, 1929, the third child of John and La Loie Martinson. He grew up and went to school in the Edmonds area until his junior year when his family moved to CA. While attending college at San Fransisco State he volunteered and served in the US Army’s Signal Core in Korea in 1951 & 1952. While there, coordinating with his home church, Dave was able to provide clothing to several orphanages in the area. After Korea, Dave graduated from San Jose State in 1957 in the educational field. While there he met his first wife Nora Earline “Gini” Garner and then taught for six years in southern California. They moved to Washington in 1962 to raise their family. He taught at Cascade High School for many years developing their electronics program, teaching Industrial Arts and Drivers’ Ed. Dave spent many weekends camping with family and on the road in their RV. An avid skier, Dave enjoyed the slopes in Washington, CA and Canada. After 49 years of marriage, Dave lost Gini to cancer in 2002. His faith and family helped support him through that difficult time.
Dave was involved in music all his life, singing in and directing the church choir at Memorial Community Church. He served as deacon and was an important leader at Memorial. Dave was president of the Friendship Club, serving on the boards of Friendship Club, Everett Traffic Advisory Council and Lago de Plata. Dave was so fortunate to find Pat Hamman and in 2004 they were married. They enjoyed Swedish pancake breakfasts visiting with their friends at Normanna Hall. They enjoyed traveling and lived happily together in Everett until his passing.
Dave was known for his great sense of humor and could always be counted on for a joke or funny story.
He never met a dessert or cane he didn’t like.
He was preceded in death by his brother John and his sister Joan (Marty).
Dave is survived by his wife Pat, two sons Eric and Michael, daughter-in-law Gigi, his grandsons Riley and Jake and many nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces.
Dave was in Hospice Care Center at Providence in Everett where he received loving and heart-felt care.
He was at peace when he went to be with his Lord on Friday, January 18, 2019, with family by his side.
A celebration of life will be held at Cascade Presbyterian Church (1030 E Casino Rd.) on February 1st at 1:00pm. Dave would invite you to donate to the charity of your choice.
