Betty Jean Raines (Weldon) was born in Burr Oak, Iowa, to Charles Stuart & Mary Elizabeth Weldon, on July 12, 1930. She was the youngest of 12 children. She described herself as "an active child" and "her father's sidekick". At the age of 13, her mother handed her a tube of lipstick explaining it would help her to look more feminine. Then began her lifelong love of lipstick and the color red. "The redder the better" were famous words from her mouth...that included her lipstick, her hair, her favorite car, her house, and even her last pair of glasses.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donald Raines and her son, Robert Vannoy. She is survived by her daughters Sandra Cobb and Diana Councilman (Gary).
Betty loved to work and had her very first job working for a neighbor when she was just 8 years old. While her children were young, she took on odd jobs, cleaning & managing households. Once her children were grown, she started her career as a meat wrapper, a job that she worked hard at and was very proud of.
Betty loved doing life with her husband Donald, her family, and their countless fur babies. She enjoyed traveling the United States, visiting Graceland, Dollywood & Disneyland. She loved summer parades and barbecues. One of her favorite hobbies was gardening and tinkering in the yard. She was especially proud of her tomato crop every summer and enjoyed feeding every critter in the yard.
Betty will be forever remembered, by her family and friends, for her strong will and work ethic, her adoration for Elvis and Roy Rogers, her sleepovers with shopping, Christmas Eve festivities, and her Halloween chili feed.
She will be missed, but we rest in the Hope that when she left this earth, she was welcomed into the arms of Jesus.
A funeral service for Betty will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 11:00 AM at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA 98203. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 12:00 PM at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett, WA 98208.
