Ann (Anna Rachel) Richey of Mukilteo passed away peacefully at home, December 15, 2017 at age 92. Born in Everett in 1925, she was the youngest of six children born to German immigrants, Fred and Sophia Krohn. Ann grew up in Everett where she attended Garfield grade school, North Junior High and in 1943 graduated from Everett High School. At age 18, Ann met Clarence Ashley (CA) Richey, an Air Force pilot and they were married in Texas in 1944. They were married for 70 years.
After CA was discharged in 1946 they returned to Everett where their son John and daughter Susan were born. They moved to Eastern Washington and then to Ethiopia. There Ann enjoyed playing bridge, dinners, dances and traveling to Europe, Jerusalem and parts of East Africa. In Africa, they sometimes lived in bush camps where Ann learned to shoot a rifle to protect herself and her children.
The family returned to Everett in 1960 and Ann graduated from Everett Business College after which she worked for GTE until her retirement. Upon retiring Ann and CA traveled in their motorhome visiting family and friends and their grandchildren would join them for wonderful adventures. She kept in close touch with her family over the years, spending time with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and later great-grandchildren. Playing games, coloring, and reading to them were special moments that will be remembered forever.
Reading was one of Ann’s lifelong passions and she was never without a book. She was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Seahawks, Mariners and following golf tournaments. She also enjoyed water color painting and bingo.
Ann was predeceased by her husband and son John. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Len), daughter-in-law Laurel (Ken), grandchildren Matt (Diemmi), Steve, and Karen (Michael), five great grandchildren and her much loved nieces and nephews. All will miss her dearly.
On December 29, viewing will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 followed by interment at the Mausoleum, Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett. A reception will follow at Harbour Pointe Retirement Center, 10200 Harbour Place, Mukilteo in the third floor activity room.
