Alex was born on September 20th, 1923, in Pepeekeo, Hawaii (at the time a Territory of Hawaii). A Graduate of Hilo High School (Hilo Hawaii) in June 1940 at the age of 16 and went on to graduate Long Beach Junior College (Long Beach, CA) in 1942 at the age of 18.
He then enlisted in the Army Air Corp. In August of 1942. He passed all the test and physical exams for Aviation Cadet Pilot training. Graduating pilot training in April 1944 as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to a B24 (Liberator) bomber flight training. He and his crew were shipped to England in October of 1944 and assigned to the 44th bomb group of the 8th Air Force. His plane was shot down on December 4th, 1944, over Germany and he became a prisoner of war. As a prisoner of war, he passed through an interrogation center, dispersal center, three hospitals, and two prisoner of war camps (Stalag 13 D, Nurenberg and Stalag 7A, Moosburg). He was given US prison of war number 55549. After spending 5 months in the camps, he was liberated in May of 1945. He then returned to the United States and served on active duty until December of 1946. He went on to serve in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1983 (41 years of service).
Alex was an employee of Boeing from 1949 to 1985 at the Seattle, Renton and Everett plant and airfields and retired after 37 years with the company. During his time at Boeing, he met and married his wife Angelita in 1983 (who also worked at Boeing Everett plant).
After retirement, he and his wife Angelita enjoyed traveling and many adventures. He also joined the gym and worked out five days a week and enjoyed playing racquetball with fellow gym members until circumstances brought it to an end in November 2017.
When Alex arrived in heaven he was greeted by his parents, Alexander Anderson Simmons Moir II & Gladys Burlingame Moir, his sister Marjorie and brother-in-law Robert Cofer, son, Bruce Moir, stepson, Daniel Terry and great niece Jaime Cofer.
He is survived by his loving wife Angelita L. Moir; his daughter Randi Moir; stepchildren Donna Spangler, Ray, James Jr, Richard and Dale Terry. His nephews Ross and Scott (from his sister Marjorie) and their wife's Nancy and Darla Cofer, great niece and nephew Amanda and Derek Cofer and grandchildren Janeen Spangler, Bridget, Tyler Terry, and Ashley Good and great grandchildren Lily, Madison, Owen and Payton.
Alex was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and great uncle and friend to many. He will be missed by numerous friends and family.
A viewing for Alexander will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and a reception from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at, Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA 98203.
