Wilma Ruth Beal, 88, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at River Pointe Health Campus. She was born in Posey County on October 23, 1929, the daughter of Wm. Elmer and Edith J. Burlison.
Wilma graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1947. She worked in the office at J.R. Short Milling Co. in Mt. Vernon and at Schnacke, Inc. prior to taking a position with the law firm of Norton and Schwentker, where she worked for 51 years, retiring in 2006 when James M. Schwentker retired from law practice.
She married Vernie C. Beal on April 22, 1950, and at the time of her passing, they were married 67 years.
Wilma was a long time member of Bethany Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where she served as Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, was a Deaconess, first woman Elder, and chaired many committees throughout the years. She served on the General Board of the Christian Church in Indiana, and on the Area 13 Board of such church several years, where she was chairperson, served as secretary of the Board of the Evansville Area Council of Churches and other committees thereof. In prior years, she was active in the Evansville Rose Society and on the Family Selection Committee of Habitat for Humanity.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Martha J. Hays, and a sister, Anna Jeanette, who died in infancy.
Surviving are her husband, Vernie C. Beal; niece, Kim S. Maddux; nephew, Kenneth Dale Hays; great nephews, Michael and Anthony Maddux, and a great-great niece and nephew.
A Funeral Service will be 11:00AM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Alexander Memorial Park, Heritage Chapel. Friends may visit Saturday from 10:00AM to service time.
