Bill graduated from Reitz High School; he then served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. He worked at SIGECO (Vectren) from 1962 until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of Daylight Masonic Lodge #752 and the Swords of Bunker Hill. Bill was a member of the Hadi Shrine where he was Potentate, 2002. In the Shrine, he was in the Color Guard, Hospital Staff, Golf League, Coffee Club, Hillbilly Clan, and the Chairman of reserved ticket sales for the Circus Committee for many years. He was also in numerous honorary units, both within Hadi and other Shrine Temples. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Norma (Pfluger) Palmer; brother, Kenneth Palmer; and mother-in-law, Virginia (Trautvetter) McKean.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy (McKean) Palmer; sons, Michael Palmer (Kim) and Brett Palmer (Jayne); daughter, Dawn Slown (Josh); grandchildren, Mitch Palmer, Logan Slown, Olivia Slown, Brooke Oldham and Tyler Oldham; brother, Darrell Palmer (Norma); sister, Debbie Miller (Ron); father-in-law, Jim McKean; sister-in-law, Jan Palmer; nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Rev. Don Bernhardt, with burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday, 3-8 PM, and Saturday, 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. On Friday at 6:15 PM, a Hadi Shrine walk-through will be held, followed by a Masonic service performed by Daylight Lodge at 6:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hadi Shrine Transportation Fund.
