He graduated from Princeton High School in 1969. His father-in-law, Hank Metzger, introduced him to and mentored him in asphalt construction and in 1976 Walter and his wife opened A-Asphalt Company, which they ran together until his retirement in 2011. He was a member and former Trustee of FOE 427, Ambassador for Makers Mark, and former president of the Evansville Knife Club. Woody was a chef, enjoyed baking, and loved to golf. He was funny, outgoing, full of life, and will be sorely missed.
Walter was preceded in death by his father, Howard Woods, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Sue (Metzger) Woods; daughters, Tacy (Tim) Adams of Evansville and Brandy Woods of Boonville; mother, Betty (Conklin) Woods; brother, Howard (Mayumi) Woods, Jr. of Boonville; sister, Brenda (Bill) Poole of Evansville; grandchildren, Brittnee, Tanner, Devin, Chase, and Taylor; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 North Stockwell Road, officiated by Fr. Ted Temple and Fr. Zach Etienne. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
