Virginia Esther Massie went to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday morning following the effects of the Covid-19 virus, at the Evansville Protestant Home. She recently celebrated her 102nd birthday.
She was born October 5, 1918 to Leonard and Valesca (Nendel) Charlton. Her mother died when she was 5 days old of the 1918 Spanish Flu Epidemic.
Virginia graduated from Hopkinsville High School (Ky.). Virginia married John Massie in 1940 and celebrated 47 years, until his death in 1987. A great homemaker, she loved cooking, painting, sewing, reading and one of her favorite enjoyments was singing in the church choir.
Virginia was a charter member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, which relocated and is now First Southern Baptist Church. She was active in church as a Sunday School teacher and the church choir, plus many other church activities she enjoyed.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Lorene Charlton, husband, John; brother, Leonard Charlton; aunts, uncles, nephews, niece & cousins.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Kay Massie (her friend Donald Childers), who deserves many thanks and gratitude for loving and helping to take good care of Virginia.
Private Services will be held at Alexander East Chapel. Virginia’s service will be livestreamed at 11:20 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 202. Please use the following link, www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA
