Verna L. Watson

Verna L. Watson, 84, of Evansville, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. She was born April 2, 1929, in Evansville, IN to the late Adam F. and Irma L. (Damm) Selzer.
She was a long-time secretary at North High School and a lifetime member of Deaconess Auxiliary, where she was President from 1996-1998. She was a volunteer and supporter of the United Caring Shelter and belonged to the Evansville Kennel Club. She was an active member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, where she served in many capacities at the church, and was a Board Member of the Red Door Preschool. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Don Watson; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Missy; granddaughter, Katie (D.J.) Barksdale; grandson, Mark Watson Taylor; twin great-grandchildren, Eli Watson and Emma Kate Barksdale all of New Albany, IN; aunt, Dorothy Hatfield of Evansville; dear friend, Billie Bristow of Evansville; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Christ Church United Church of Christ, officiated by Dr. John Charles, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
