Sharon was born to David and Linda Thurman in Lake Charles, Louisiana, June 20th 1959. She was married to Mike Loy.
Sharon had many careers during her life. She was the sweetest waitress to ever take an order, the friendliest hostess, and a compassionate care-giver, to name a few. She was great at everything she did because she never met a stranger. If you knew Sharon you always had a best friend. But her favorite profession, the work that brought her the most joy, was the job of being a mother.
When Sharon was a little girl she dreamed most of being a mom. And what a wonderful mother she was. No sacrifice was too large for Sharon when it came to her children. She was born to be a mother. Being a mom provided her with the deepest sense of pride she had in her entire life. She would often say, “I never wanted to be rich, I just wanted to be a mom.” Because for Sharon, being a mom was the only wealth she would ever need, and she shared those riches with so many. Not only was she a fantastic mother to her three kids, she was a second mom to countless nieces, nephews and friends of her children. She was “mom” to so many.
Sharon loved to sing, especially songs by Elvis Presley. You could often catch Sharon shaking her hips and performing her own laughter inducing version of “Hound Dog”. Sharon loved to dance. When the hardships of life dragged her down, without fail you could put a smile on her face with a little dancing. And even when she was at her sickest, you would occasionally catch her shaking those hips in bed and laughing when you asked her if she was dancing.
Sharon is survived by her father David Thurman and mother Linda Thurman; her husband Mike Loy; her children, James Thurman, Joseph Hill, and Amanda Hill; three beautiful grandchildren, Lacie Hill; Braylon Hill, and Aubrey Trail; her sisters Tambra Morell, Rebecca Rueger, and Deborah Shokouhzadeh, and her brothers, Tony Thurman, and David Douglas Thurman.
A Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at Alexander East Funeral Home, followed with visitation until 7:00 p.m. Please join us as we celebrate the life of our wonderful mother, daughter, sister and best friend, Sharon Marie Loy.
