He was a US Army veteran and owner and operator of Fischer Candy Company. Robert was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he served in various positions as well as a trustee and board member of Evansville Lutheran School Foundation. He was also a member of The Olde Tyme Auto Club, Classic Car Club of America, Antique Auto Club of America and Packard International.
Robert was preceded in death by son, Thomas E. Fischer, and sisters, Dorothy and Edith Fischer and Evie Peek.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edna (Letterman) Fischer; son, Randall (Judy) Fischer; daughter, Karen D. (Mark) Whitehead;daughter-in-law, Pat Fischer; brothers, Norman C. (Margaret) Fischer and Byron Fischer of Boise,ID; sister Marilyn (Frank) Horner of Phoenix; grandchildren, Melani (Anthony) Hensley, Shannon Fischer, Katy (Chris) Parsons, Sarah (Brent) Wittenbraker, Laura (David) Alexander; step-grandchildren, Shana (Dave) Patz, Slade (Lindsay) Sutton, Matt (Lisa) Schauseil, 5 great-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Heritage Hospice staff for all their love and care and the staff at Heritage Center at Holiday Nursing Home.
Funeral Service will be 10:00AM, Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 100 E. Michigan Street, officiated by Pastors Chad Eckels and Matthew Schilling, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit 4:00PM to 8:00PM Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road and Wednesday from 9:00AM to service time at the church.
