He was a freelance artist for DeJongs Department Store, The Evansville Philharmonic, and an Exhibit Artist for Charles Alexandre Lesueur Museum in New Harmony, IN which was funded by a federal grant, a fact of which he was very proud. Additionally, he worked at Whirlpool Corp. and as a Diesel Mechanic.
A true Renaissance man, Ricky was a bonsai enthusiast; coin collector, jewelry maker and multimedia artist, whose breadth of talents knew very little bounds. He played banjo on the Spirit of Evansville and was a founding member of the Yankee Dime Band, playing guitar and banjo.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Darling; sons, Neil Matthew (Christina) and Justin Lee (Carrie); daughter, Robin; sisters, Jackie Mercer (Dan) and Sherri Kitzinger; brothers, Jerry Carey and Donald Darling Jr. (Brenda); brothers-in-law, Dennis Hitch (Kathi) and Mike Hitch (Karen).
Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Rev. Stan Gilham. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
