Michael A. Stewart

Michael A. Stewart, 69, of Evansville, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012, at his home. He was born June 13, 1943, in Mt. Vernon, IN, to the late George Arnold and Mary (Payne) Stewart. He was a member of Restoration Ministries Church and retired from Local 104 in 1996 after 31 years. He lettered in sports 14 times while at Mt. Vernon High School and received a full scholarship to Tennessee State University. He was inducted into the Mt. Vernon Hall of Fame and enjoyed sports and working in the yard. Michael was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, George B. and Cleophaus Stewart and Jupiter and Ethel Payne; sister, Marjorie Stewart; brother, Gary Stewart; nephew, Eric Stewart; and niece, Nicole Orr Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jenevelyn (Shelby) Stewart; son, Jeffery M. (Frances) Stewart, both of Evansville; daughters, R. Michele (Derrick) Bruce of Homewood, IL; Shannon Marie (Rogge) Wytovak of Evansville, Aesha (Mel) Stewart Zackery of Novi, MI and Chinyere Jackson of Kansas City, MO; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth (Debra) Stewart of Newburgh and Craig (Mary) Stewart of Evansville; sisters, Phyllis (S. Davis) Johnson and Janet Orr, both of Mt. Vernon; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be 12:00 PM Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Bethany Apostolic Church, 212 Mulberry Street, officiated by Rev. James Williams, with burial in St. Matthews Church Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
