Mary graduated from Buffalo State University with a bachelor’s degree in history. She then attended Seminary School in Minnesota and earned her master’s degree in theology. Mary began her ministry career as an Associate Pastor in Loraine, Ohio and went on to serve at churches in State Center, Iowa, Center Point, Indiana, and Evansville, Indiana. In addition to serving as chaplain at The Good Samaritan Home for 25 years, Mary was also a part-time and interim pastor at many local churches.
After retiring from Good Samaritan Home, Mary served as the Associate Pastor and Pastor of St. Paul’s UCC where she was instrumental in facilitating the transition from St. Paul’s on West Michigan Street to their new home on Middle Mt. Vernon Road. There was no doubt that she was dedicated, sensitive, outgoing, and full of life, and truly cared about people in a very special way. The love she had for her family, especially her grandchildren, was unconditional. Among Mary's favorite things were reading and traveling, especially to Disney World, Alaska, and Ireland.
Mary is survived by her husband of 22 years, Bernie Hurley; daughters, Meghann Fitzpatrick (Mandie) and Elizabeth Tuttle (Jay); children of the heart, Michael Hurley (Jill) and Heather Logdson (Jimmy); grandchildren, Abbey Fitzpatrick, Collin Hurley, Caleb Hurley, Ella Logsdon, Liam Logdson, Harper Tuttle, Ethan Hurley, and John Tuttle; sister, Diana Zorich; cousins, William Hoffman, Wendy Swart (Ronald), Jeffrey Zorich, and other family and many friends.
