Mary Ethel Alvey Drury, 97, of Evansville, passed way Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Terrace at Solarbron. She was born March 26, 1913, in Union County, KY to Ruth Ella Crawley and Louis Oscar Alvey.
She married Clarence A. Drury on February 20, 1939. She was the loving mother of five children and a dedicated homemaker. She and her husband, Clarence, were members of Nativity Catholic Church in Evansville for 35 years and were honored in 2001 with the Brute Award for their volunteer work there. She was active for many years in quilting clubs, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, Nativity Catholic Church Women’s Club and was a member of St. Mary’s Legion of Mary. She enjoyed quilting, Scrabble, Bingo and Clabber. For many years she sewed the “Pinkie” puppets for St. Mary’s Hospital pediatric patients.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Clarence.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (William) Osborne of Davenport, IA and Sandra Lee of Louisville, KY; sons, Lawrence (Janet) Drury of Evergreen, CO, C. Donald (Mary) Drury and James (Rebecca) Drury of Evansville; grandchildren, Amy Osborne Schebler, Beth Osborne Weimerskirch, Tucker Drury, Meghan Tust, Andrea James, Donald James Lee, Jr., Amber Stratton, Nathan Drury, Tabitha McCallister, Darci Drury and Michael Heil; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Nativity Catholic Church, officiated by Father Henry Kuykendall, with entombment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
The family of Ethel wishes to give special thanks to the staff of the Terrace of Solarbron and VistaCare Hospice for their kindness, consideration and diligent care during her final illness.
