Marvin L. Underwood, 93, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at River Pointe Health Campus. He was born May 25, 1921, in Grant, TN, to the late Green R. and Ruthie Jane (Hankins) Underwood, and grew up in Lebanon, TN.
He was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in the East Indies, South Philippines, New Guinea, and Luzon with the 158th Regimental Combat Team (Bushmasters), of which Douglas MacArthur referred to as “the greatest fighting combat team ever deployed for battle.” Marvin was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He attended Bramwell School of Business and retired from ALCOA. He attended Terrace Park Baptist Church and was a past master of Grandview Masonic Lodge.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife in 1999, Jean; parents; and six siblings.
He is survived by his daughters, Marsha Spalding of Evansville and Connie (Larry) Thompson of Bluffton, SC; grandsons, Nathan (Kara) Spalding of Owensville and Adam (Ashley) Spalding of Evansville; and great-grandchildren, Riley, Ryder, Tucker, and Parker Spalding.
The family would like to thank Martha Alderson for her years of caregiving and support.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 14, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites. Friends may visit Friday from 400 to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
