Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Herb Weisman, parents Edwin and Helen Kron, her twin brothers Melvin Kron and Alvin Kron, brother-in-law Walter “Junior” Weisman and nephew Brian Kron. She is survived by her children Susan (Charlie Jr) English of Evansville, Larry (Marguerite) Weisman of Philadelphia, Jim Weisman of Lafayette, Indiana, and Jane Weisman of Brownstown, Indiana. Her sisters-in-law are Linda Kron of Evansville, Lynn Kron of Lexington, Kentucky, and Jeanne Weisman of Hayesville, Indiana. Her grandchildren Jenna (Will) Weisman Lindsay of Philadelphia, Joseph Weisman of San Francisco, Jacob Weisman of Philadelphia, Emily English of Evansville, and Charlie English III of Evansville. In addition, her nieces and nephews include Julie Kron Burgel of Richmond, Kentucky, Matt Kron of St. Louis, Missouri, Melissa Kron of Louisville, Kentucky, Daniel Weisman of Jasper, Indiana, Carrie Weisman Vonderheide of Jasper, Indiana, and Megan Kron Hoffherr of Evansville. She also enjoyed spending time with three of her great nieces and nephews, Bennett, Evan, and Adelyn Hoffherr of Evansville.
After graduating from Reitz High School in 1959, she worked at Nunn Milling Company, where she developed many life-long friends. She then married Herb Weisman and became a stay-at-home mother to her four children. She participated in her children’s lives as a Scott School-room mother, Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, and in many after-school activities with them.
She was a lifelong member of Salem Church of Darmstadt. She was on its Board of Christian Education and a member of the Church Council, where she served as a Deacon. She also taught Sunday School for many years and was a Junior & Senior youth group advisor. She enjoyed participating in the Women’s Guild. One of her favorite activities was leading kuchen-making at church and helping to prepare various meals.
Marilyn impacted many young people through her 30-year service as a 4-H Leader for the Armstrong Hi-Lighters 4-H Club in Vanderburgh County. She also served on the Vanderburgh County 4-H Council and 4-H Leaders Organization. Marilyn actively supported the Vanderburgh 4-H Center through her many volunteer efforts especially at the 4-H Spring Round-Up. In addition, Marilyn was a strong supporter and volunteer of the Vanderburgh County Fair and never missed a year of the fair. Some of her fondest fair memories were of her competing against her twin brothers showing their family’s Holstein dairy cattle.
Later in life, she returned to work and retired from Covance Medical Labs after 15 years of service. During her retirement, she found great joy looking after her grandchildren and her many pets. Marilyn enjoyed reading her many books as well as cooking and baking. Marilyn enjoyed hosting her extended family for holidays and many family meals. She also enjoyed going to lunch with her family and friends over time. A favorite pastime was finding new recipes and sharing them with family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. CST Friday, December 20, 2024 at Salem Church of Darmstadt, officiated by Rev. David Peterson, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. CST Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Alexander North Chapel and from 10:00 a.m. CST until service time at church on Friday.
