Margaret Alice Nelson

Mrs. Margaret Alice Nelson, 86, of Evansville, IN passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Heart to Heart Hospice in Evansville, IN. Mrs. Nelson was born on January 14, 1936, in Sikeston, MO, the daughter of Ray and Katherine (Hanner) Marshall.

She was a graduate of Sikeston High School, Iowa State College and Indiana State University. She was married to the late Dr. Laurnie Wayne Nelson for 51 years prior to his passing in 2008.

Mrs. Nelson was a devoted wife and mother whose passions were her family, cooking and gardening. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, IN.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter, Dr. Janet Gordon and her husband Dr. James Gordon of Hillsborough, NC; sons, Dr. David Nelson and his wife Dr. Kathy Nelson of Mt. Vernon, IN, Dean Nelson and his wife Carol of Charleston, IL, Charles Nelson and his wife Kim of Santa Rosa, CA, John Nelson and his wife Susan of John’s Island, SC, and Colonel (ret) Thomas Nelson, USMC and his wife Lisa of Stafford, VA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Jenna and Andrew Gordon, and Mathew, Cecilia, Sarah, Laura, Eric, Alex, Lauren, Jacob, Joseph and Grace Nelson; 3 great grandchildren, Henry, Parker, and Hayes.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Katherine Marshall; brothers Mark Marshall and Ray Marshall, Jr.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a date yet to be determined.
