Mabel Elizabeth Thomas

Mabel Elizabeth Thomas, 94, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at her home. She was born August 6, 1920, in Crittenden County, KY to the late William T. and Nancy E. (White) Chandler.
She was raised on a farm and was a true Kentucky lady. She worked hard all her life and raised her children on her own, with love. Mabel attended Washington Avenue Baptist Church for over 61 years and was one of the oldest members of the Joy Group. She retired from Welborn Hospital after 15 years, where she was a housekeeper. She was also a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Mabel was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Jason Burns; two sisters; and five brothers.
She is survived by her son, Carl (Mary Ellen) Coker; daughters, Betsy Burns, Mable Sue (Donnie) Darnell and Sonjia Mills (deceased); son-in-law, Steve Mills; granddaughter, Julie Mills; and grandchildren, Jeff Darnell, James Callahan, Julie Mills, Chad Darnell, Kelly Burns, Jamie Campbell and Mary Elizabeth Mills.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 22, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Gary Lanham, with burial in Pithian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis, KY at 2:00 PM. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
