Luella was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ for 55 years. She had been a member of the Ladies Aid Society and the Quilter’s Association. She was one of the original members of the AARP that met at St. Paul’s.
She had worked at General Cigar Company and in the Cafeteria at Vogel School.
Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Dalton Jones in 1982; parents, Edward and Anna (Mitz) Griess; and sisters, Edna Gaffney, Irene Clem, and Helen Moore.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Lear (Frank) of Ft. Branch and Judy Hamsley (John) of Evansville; grandchildren, Paula Lear Harding and Greg Lear of Evansville, Kelly Hamsley Marquitz and Laurie Hamsley of St. Louis; great grandchildren, Evan and Connor Harding, Anna, Whitney and Daniel Marquitz, and Abby Lear; nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Heritage Center for their care and compassion for Luella these past two years.
Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, August 20, 2010, at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, officiated by Rev. Lynn Marino with burial to follow. Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel.
