Lucy L. (Durbin) Becker, 86, of Evansville, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 7, 1930, in Owensboro, KY, to the late Laurence and Lucy (Crabtree) Durbin.
Lucy enjoyed reading and was an avid embroiderer, quilter, and master seamstress having made wedding dresses, majorette outfits, men’s suits and tons of clothes for her children and grandchildren. Most recently, she embroidered numerous pillow cases and made baby quilts with love and care by her constantly moving hands. Keeping her hands active with sewing and quilting projects was part of her daily routine. She was compassionate, loved providing meals for anyone, and always made room in her home for those who needed a place to lay their head. She never let anyone go home hungry! Lucy’s strong faith and love of family were shown through her adopting over 50 honorary members into the family. She served as president of both the Reitz and Tekoppel PTAs and was a member of the Evansville Area Council PTA. Lucy was also past president of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women Org., Indiana Presbyterian Women, North Central Synod and Raintree Quilters Guild. She was a previous member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and most recently a member of Morningside Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Becker, in 2004; sisters, Muriel Opperman and Margie Durbin; brother, Mervil Durbin; grandson, William Martin; and son-in-law, Anthony Nellis.
She is survived by her daughters, Dianna Becker, Esther (Norman) Martin, Rebecca (Alan) Kiesel, Beverly Nellis, Karen Becker and Marie (Robert) Mayes; grandchildren, Amber Davy, Kelli Rush, Kyle Martin, Bradly Kiesel, Michael Kiesel, Corey Adkins, John Hurst, Amy Hurst, Katrinia Jones, Jessica Mayes, Zacary Mayes and Andrew Mayes; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Tammy (Terry) Chambers.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, May 1, 2017, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. James Messer, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
