Obituary of Kenneth D. Mears
Kenneth D. Mears, 91, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Solarbron. He was born August 27, 1931, in Evansville, Indiana. Kenny graduated from Central High School and attended Evansville College. He retired from Alcoa after over 30 years of employment. He started working in the Pot Room and ended his career as a full-time Union Counselor. His career accomplishments ultimately earned him the award, “Mr. Alcoa.” Kenny attended Asbury United Methodist Church, Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church and Westwood General Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran, serving in Germany with the 567th Field Artillery Battalion in the Spring of 1953. Kenny was a firearm enthusiast, loved yardwork, and gardening, roses being his favorite. He went on several Mission Trips to Columbia with his wife through Asbury UMC. He and his wife supported many Missionaries throughout their Christian life. Known as “Uncle Kenny” and “Aunt Bettye,” they were loved and cherished by all who knew them over the years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bettye Lee (Ungetheum) Mears; parents, Carey “Cotton” Mears and Lela Vaught Poland; sister, Lela Janice Matarrese; brother, Carey Wayne Mears; nephew, Carey W. Mears. Kenny is survived by his nieces, Connie Romain (Ron) and Vicki Breivogel (Randy); and nephews, Dale Dartt (Ladonna), Tracey D. Mears, and Scott Matarrese; great nieces and nephews, Amy Barron (Josh), Jeff Romain (Katie), April Johnson (Lee), Kevin Dartt (Amanda), Joshua Breivogel (Victoria), and Tim Breivogel (Jeana). A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. John Sloan, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to Westwood Church, 121 S.
