John was born October 2, 1960 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of the late Kenneth and Jonelle (Laval) Kissel. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1979, attended Ivy Tech Community College and then made his career as a sheet metal worker for Midwest Sheet Metal. John loved to fish, hunt, work, play his guitar, play with his dog, Gizmo and most of all, he loved his wife and family, they meant everything to John. He never met a stranger or anyone that he wasn’t willing to help. John was a spiritual man who loved the outdoors, every day he would go outside, raise his hands to the sky and thank God for another wonderful day.
He is survived by his loving wife, Denise (Bateman) Kissel of Evansville; children, Brooklyn Davidson (Michael) of Evansville, James “Jimmy” Gordon (Rachel) of Newburgh and fur baby, Gizmo; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Tracey, JoAnn Adler (Bob), Kathy Lindsey and Peggy Hardin; brother-in-law, Lonnie Bateman (Bettey); grandchildren Caden and Jada Gordon and Makayla Davidson, loving aunts, Jennifer Laval and Judy Morton, special friends Richie Snow and James Stinson.
John was preceded in death by his parents and paternal grandparents.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville with Pastor Maurice Melton officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may visit from 3 pm until 7 pm, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
