John Gore, Jr., 90, of Evansville passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born July 21, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio to John, Sr. and Bessie (Chandley) Gore. The family moved to Evansville when John was a young boy.
John graduated from Reitz High School in Evansville and later served for many years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He worked at International Harvester, Hahn, Inc., and subsequently retired from Accuride Corporation. John was a lifetime member of Centenary United Methodist Church and for many years was caretaker of the Centenary Cemetery. He enjoyed mowing grass, as well as, repairing lawn mowers and small engines for friends and family. John also liked watching his grandchildren play sports and he loved traveling throughout the U.S. on vacations with his family.
Surviving John are his wife of 69 years, Loretta (East), and his children, Brenda Gore, Jeff Gore, Gayla (Ben) Kempf, Janet (Steve) Graves, and Julie (Roger) Huebner. Also surviving are his 11 grandchildren, Laura (Jace) Ford, Matt (Kayla) Gore, Amanda (Nick) Wahl, Eric (Lacey) Kempf, Jesse (Brandi) Graves, Jacob (Lauren) Graves, Ally Kempf, Kiley Huebner, Brooke (Elliot) Lehmann, Ryan Huebner, and Callie Graves, and 5 great-grandchildren, Lexi, Jax, and Max Ford, Eli Gore, and Hartley Wahl plus 2 more expected soon.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 14340 Old State Road, Evansville, IN, officiated by Pastor Tim Powers with burial in Centenary Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Alexander North Chapel, and, on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
The family would like to thank caregiver, Lisa Ashby Goff, and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church or the Centenary Cemetery Association.
