The news of John's passing provided a somber starting point for my day. But as the sun progressed across the sky I was able to reflect on how bright his light burned and how fortunate I was to come to know this remarkable man. He was a real kindred spirit! His appetite for authentic spiritual experience was tempered by his heart's fire for honesty, integrity and generosity. He freely shared his wisdom without diluting its depth and while remaining mindful of his obligations not to throw pearls before swine. Attending his consecration as bishop was an honor as I was able to witness the culmination of his spiritual odyssey. After mightily battling the odds, he succumbed to leukemia and has set off on another journey. Be Well, my friend.

May your family and loved ones take comfort in knowing that you inspired so many.

Becky, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of grief.

Those who did not know John well might be surprised to learn that such a humble and quiet man was a great teacher and leader. His warmth and sincerity, like the ripples from a stone dropped in a pond, have radiated literally around the world. His impact will be felt in the hearts of many for a very long time to come. His wife, children and family are and will remain a loving and enduring focus of our prayers.

Bishop John Cole was a blessing for all those knew Him. An illuminated Spirit down to Earth. He is an example for all of Us. We will miss Him greatly. Being +John a true Brother of the Rosy+Cross, Our new Mission in Eastern Cuba will be dedicated to His everlasting memory. May God give strength to His Wife and Family. +Emanuele F. I don't have the words to say how much this loss has meant to Sara (John's daughter) and myself. Our prayers are with Susan and her children.  John will always be remembered.

John was a friend of many years. He had an incredible working knowledge of things Mystical and Magical. I learned much from him in our letters and emails. I will miss my dear old friend. My Love and best thoughts go out to all his family and loved ones.

John was a great man- I always admired and respected him.  He was a strong & unique individual.    He will be missed, but never forgotten.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I knew Sar Quaero Lucem better than most of our brothers and sisters in 
Martinism. A more humble servant of God there was not, a more tireless worker 
in the vineyard of the Lord there was not, a gentler soul there was not. 
For the past 10 years while sick with Leukemia, our beloved Brother John 
continued working for his family and the great work with fervency and zeal 
unequalled in the Ancient Martinist Order, Ancient and Primitive Rite of 
Memphis-Misraim, the Gnostic Church, the Rosicrucian and Templar movements. May 
now be numbered and honored upon all the altars for the Masters of the Past 
in every Ancient Martinist Lodges, Heptads and Circles through the earth 
every time the Martinist work begins. I pray all other Martinist Orders 
through the now consider Brother John Cole Sar Quaero Lucem a Past Master of 
all Martinist Orders. John was and will always remain the Primer Grand Master 
of the Ancient Martinist Order as well a Past Grand Master of the Blue 
Lodges of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraim for the Blue 
Lodges. John you are loved and missed by me and my family now and always my 
true brother in Christ.

I would ask all those who read this email to pass it on around the world 
and that we keep John in our hearts and pray form John using the following 
oration from the Sacramentry of the Rose+Croix by Robert Ambelain: 
Prayer for someone who has just died 
O God, You have the power of Life and Death, God of Spirits and of all 
Flesh, God who gives death and life, who leads to the gates of Hell or takes 
back from it, You, O Lord who created the spirit of man in him, You greet 
the souls of Saints and You, O Lord who give them rest, You change, You 
transform, and You, O Lord who transfigure all your creatures, according to 
whether he is just and useful; alone, You, O Lord who are incorruptible, 
immutable, and eternal. O Merciful Lord, I thus beg You, O Lord who for the 
liberation, the sleep, and the rest of this servant. Recreate his soul and his 
spirit in Your Pasture, in the homes of eternal rest, with Abraham, Isaac, 
and Jacob, and all Your Saints. Lord of Life, may You, O Lord who raise 
this body the day You will have chosen according to Your formal promises, 
and allow him, in the Holy Places, his share. Lord, may You, O Lord who 
forget his sins and his crimes, thus making his departure from this body be calm 
and blessed. Heal the sadness of the surviving through Your Consoling 
Spirit and give us all a happy end. Through Your Only Son, Jesus Christ, 
through whom all glory and honor are rendered to You, now and forever. Amen.

As John is survived by his wife, Susan, and their children Jesse and 
Rebeccah (Becky), as well as a daughter Sarah let us all pray the following 
prayer from the Sacramentry of the Rose+Croix by Robert Ambelain: 
Prayer for the Brothers of the Order their close relatives and all Past 
Masters 
O Eternal God, You who dispenses forgiveness and who desires the 
well-being of men, we beg Your Holy Clemency to give the Brothers and sisters of the 
Order, their parents and close relatives as well as our Past Masters who 
left this century, to abide with Your saints and Your Angels, the Eternal 
Bliss by their return to their celestial origins and the Original Unity 
re-conquered at last. May You give these Souls, O Lord of Mercy, Eternal Rest 
for time immemorial, and may the everlasting light shine its rays upon them. 
Through Jesus Christ Our Lord and Master and through Saint John His
