James Harold Schoonover, 85, of Evansville, died January 12, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center following a short illness. He was born July 20, 1927 in St. Francisville, IL, the son of Dennie and Hazel (Buchanan) Schoonover.
He will forever be remembered as a generous, kind and hardworking man always willing to lend a hand. He was very outgoing and loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events, birthday parties, and weddings. He enjoyed socializing with all his friends at the boat and was quick with a story. Possessed with a wonderful sense of humor, he made everyone he came in contact with smile.
He spent his early years working the oil fields in Southern Illinois before settling in Evansville to raise his family where he was a proud member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136 for over 60 years. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of American Legion Post 947 and VFW Post 4276.
James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma (Van Lue) Schoonover; and daughters, Marilyn Watson and Patricia Carroll.
He is survived by his daughter, Becky Addleman (Jeffrey); sons-in-law, Jerry Watson and Larry Carroll; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a large extended family and many friends.
Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Fred Denton, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery in St. Francisville, IL. Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
