Jim started working at the age of sixteen at the original Evansville Sandy’s Restaurant. After 58 years in the food service industry, he retired in 2021. Jim “worked, lived, and loved his job.” He made many friends throughout his lifetime. He is described as a true gentleman, passionate, caring, highly respected and a great mentor. He was a member of Newburgh United Methodist Church, Jaycees, and West Side Nut Club. Jim was an avid NASCAR Racing fan and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals with their daughter and son in law. He also enjoyed gardening, working outdoors, and loved traveling. He and his wife, Karen loved to watch their granddaughters participate in a variety of activities.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karen, daughter, Tessie Turpen (Troy), and granddaughters, Madeline and Kaitlin Turpen, all of Newburgh; sister, Nancy Spencer and niece, Carrie Buff both of Atlanta, GA.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Alexander East Chapel with Pastor Mark Dicken officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh. Friends may visit on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
