James Rolland Little, Sr. (Jim) of Evansville, Indiana passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 at the age of 93. He was born on July 10, 1930 in Evansville, Indiana where he grew up on the West Side. Jim graduated from F. J. Reitz in 1948.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and 47 days. He entered as a Private E-1, and retired as a Sergeant First Class E-7. He was active duty during the Korean and Vietnam War. Jim was deployed to many places including Japan, China, Germany, and South Korea. He graduated with honors from the Army Engineer School in Virginia for Special Electrical & Electronic device repair. After his retirement from the Army in 1968; he worked as a local driver and dock worker for McLean Trucking Company (1986) and Yellow Freight Systems until 1995 when he retired. He was also a school bus driver for EVSC from 1984 to 1986 while in laid off status from McLean.
Jim was actively involved with his children, and grandchildren attending many school events, and activities through the years. He enjoyed running for many years, running road races way up into his seventies. His favorite vacation place was Gatlinburg, Tennessee. There were many family trips there and wonderful memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Marguerite (Harrington) Little; son, William Robert Little; grandson, Jason Robert Little; and sister, Margie.
Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jerldene Faye (Deer) Little; his children, James Little (Tedra), Julie Waters (Brian); his Grandchildren, Lucy Nellis (Daine), Maddison, Rome, and Dominic Waters; his Great-Grandchildren, Blake and Benjamin Nellis; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank our caregivers Chris, Karen, Serena, and Heart To Heart Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days. Chris and Karen were there in the final hours giving so much compassion, support and love; it will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN followed by burial with military honors at Tupman Cemetery.
Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
