James “Jim” Martin, Sr., 88, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born December 17, 1926 in Evansville, IN, to the late Carl and Anna (Wright) Martin.
He graduated from Huntington High School in 1938 and then attended Butler University where he was a member of the University Band. He was a US Army Veteran from 1946 and then began his career at Indiana Bell from which he retired after 30 years of service as a Marketing Representative. He became a member of the Hadi Temple Shrine in 1948 and was the Director of the Hadi Brass Band for ten years. He also belonged to the Constellation Masonic Lodge 748. Mr. Martin was proud of his achievement as the first trumpet in the Conservatory of Music Orchestra. He attended East Side Christian Church and was a member of the Owls for many years, as well as the River Bend Association.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debbie; and former wife, Millie.
He is survived by five sons, James “Ed” (Charlene), Tom, Scott (Charmaine), Rick, and Barry (Sandy) Martin; daughters, Lesa Scott and Barbie Fowler; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel. Private burial will be held at a later date.
