

Jim was born in Southern Indiana on October 31, 1922 to the late Kell and Etta Mae (Williams) Dixon. He graduated from Reitz High School in 1941 where he played on the State Championship football team. Jim went on to serve in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a tail-gunner. During the war, he spent 20 months as a Prisoner of War in Krems, Austria in Stalag 17-B. Jim spent his career working as a brick mason for the local union. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, being at Barkley Lake, grilling-out, and spending time with his family. Jim was a proud veteran and lifetime member of VFW Post 1114.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Pamela "Pam" (Joe) Prasek of Cadiz, KY, Jamia Dixon of Evansville and Amanda Knowles of Evansville; grandchildren, Laura Lyon and Annie Dixon; great-grandchildren, Jacob (Lauren) Lyon, Blake (Hope) Lyon, Kara (Justen) Spirks, Matthew Prasek, Kelsie and Colton Bland; great-great grandchildren, Josephine Lyon and Hadley Spirks.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Rose (Criswell) Dixon in 2006; by his parents; sisters, Delores Schraner and Nadine Potts; brothers, Elvis Jordan and Raymond Dixon; and by his grandson, Matthew Prasek.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery, 2200 Mesker Park Dr., Evansville, IN 47720 where the Retired Veteran's Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711.
