Herman Everett Thomas, Sr.

Herman Everett Thomas, Sr., 90, of Norwood, MA, formerly of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at his home. He was born August 24, 1926, in Corydon, KY, to the late Charles Dorris and Sally Beatrice (Hughes) Thomas.
He was a retired teacher, having taught for 41 years with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. Herman was a member of Grace and Peace Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Sounds of Grace Church Choir. He was also a veteran, receiving an honorable discharge as a Technician Fifth Grade from the US Army Veteran. He enjoyed gardening, singing, and billiards.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife in 1993, Janie Vee Thomas; parents; brother, James Thomas; and sisters, Ellen McCain and Helen Sullivan.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda T. (Thomas) Piper; sons, Herman (Donna) Thomas, Jr. and Larry S. Thomas; grandchildren, Christopher L. Dixon, Brandon M. Piper, Jessica M. (Pierre) Raulet, Herman “Everett” Thomas, III, Zachary L. (Taryn) Thomas, and Taylor M. Thomas; great-granddaughters, Tegan and Tinsley Thomas; brothers, Laurence and Hugh Willis Thomas; sister, Margaret Anita Reed; and special friend, Marion Young.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Memorial Baptist Church, 645 Canal Street, officiated by Pastor Roberta Meyer, with burial in Thomas Cemetery in Cairo, KY. Friends may visit Friday, November 11, 2016, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue.
