He graduated from Bosse High School in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 4 years as a Shipfitter (Metalsmith) on several Naval ships. After serving in the Navy, he worked in the grocery business for 39 years; 34 years as a Produce Manager.
He lived in California and Madisonville, Kentucky then moved back to Evansville, IN to retire. He was a member of the Order of the Owls and several days a week he could be found playing Clabber at the Owls. He was an avid Clabber player and he definitely loved to win but did not like to lose. His favorite sports teams were the Indiana Hoosiers, Cubs, and the Colts.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm; mother, Geraldine; his beloved son, Robert “Scott” Hancock; his younger brother, Billy Hancock; and step-father, Ray Gries.
He is survived by his beloved son, Kevin D. Hancock; his beloved granddaughter, Cayla (Aiden) Reece; nephew, William “Bill” (Chris) Hancock; and niece, Lori (David) Hill. In addition, he is survived by many first cousins, David (Diana) Craig, Lloyd (Mary) Craig, Janet Craig, Charlotte Dahman, Sharon Pitt, Patricia Garcia, and Gary (Marty) Craig . Bob is also survived by a special friend, Diane ”Beth” Meyer.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be performed at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville, Kentucky on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life will be conducted at a later date.
