Betty was born on April 16, 1932 to the late Gilbert W. and Leona (Powell) Schmidt. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1950 and later from the University of Evansville where she was a member of Beta Sigma Omicron Society.
She was a loving mother who was involved in many community and church related outreach initiatives through the years. After her children were grown, she managed The Baby Shop in Northbrook Plaza, but her most proud business accomplishment was becoming a multimillion dollar real estate broker with Emge Tucker Real Estate for 20 years before her retirement. Betty was also a lifelong member of Bethel United Church of Christ and a member of Altrusa International.
Betty is survived by her children Michael W. Hawkins of San Francisco, CA, Stephen W. Hawkins of Evansville, IN, Nancy H. Tabor of Evansville, IN, stepson Bradley J. Prickett (Susan), her sister Kathryn Henry of Indianapolis, IN, grandchildren Jacob and Sarah Tabor, Megan Prickett, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Walnut Creek Alzheimer’s Specialty Care Center for providing extraordinary care to Betty while continuing to provide purpose and joyful meaning to her life as Alzheimer’s disease increasingly stole her memory.
