Her childhood years were spent on a family farm in Paradise Twp, Ind. When she was 14, her family relocated to Evansville and it was at this time she discovered her love of music through instruction at Campbell Music Studio.
After graduating from Reitz High School, she continued to grow as musician and several years later, moved to California where she began to work as a music teacher. She met her husband, Edward, also a musician, and for over 20 years they together contributed to a vibrant musical education community in Southern California, through the establishment of Valentine Music Studios, festival participation and organization, and music store proprietorship.
Doris returned to Evansville in 1979 to begin a new career in her family restaurant businesses -Zestos and Huggys, while continuing to provide musical instruction.
Doris was very competitive at heart, sponsored local sports teams, and loved to watch team sports, especially college basketball. She was also a seasoned bowler with a history of some impressive scores! She remained active at her assisted living residence in the last years of her life, as president of the resident association while entertaining residents with live accordion performances.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Valentine and her sibling Robert Krug, both of Evansville.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Valentine of San Diego, CA, Jim Valentine of Evansville, and Gerald Valentine of Santa Fe, NM, five grandchildren, Gina, Carly and Ava Valentine, and Chase and Tanner Kragenbrink, one great grandchild, Carter Kragenbrink, and her brother, Donald Krug of Evansville.
