Donald (Don) Carlton Schnabel went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2024. He was born and raised in Evansville and was a west sider. He went to Mater Dei High School, but graduated from North High School, he also played Football for both. He loved the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. He was a Master Mason for a local lodge here in Evansville. He devoted his life to working in Public Safety as a Deputy Sheriff for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department and a Firefighter for the EVV Airport; but his greatest accomplishments were being a devoted Husband, Dad, Papaw, Brother, and friend.
He is survived by his wife who has not left his side for 33 years, Becky Schnabel; his daughter, Victoria Reitmeyer (Justin Duncan); his son Shawn Magary (Rachel Magary); and his grandchildren, Keagan Magary, Chase Reitmeyer, Carson (Paki) Reitmeyer, Kendyl Duncan, Stephanie Rheinlander, William Rodenberg, Kathryn Hisch; and his sisters, Becky Jackson, Debbie Fisher (Mike), and Kathy Rice; and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his Mother and Father, Dorothy and Carlton Schnabel; and his brother David Schnabel.
Don was loved by many, and loved to help anyone out in need. He was a great friend to anyone who needed a hand. He loved the beach and took trips every year to Daytona Beach. He loved watching his grandkids and always put them before himself and never missed a sporting event or a concert. Christmas time was his favorite time of year and had yearly Christmas parties to show off his Department 56 Dickens village and spend time with friends and family. He will be missed and forever loved by everyone he knew.
A Catholic memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation in the chapel from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Don’s memory can be made directly to, Rebecca Schnabel at 700 Georgette Rd. Evansville, IN 47720. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
We also want to thank the amazing Nurses that took care of him between May 21st to the time of his death between Deaconess Midtown and Deaconess Gateway; and to all of the family and friends who have prayed and supported our family during these last several months.
