Donald was born on December 18, 1936 in Evansville to the late Louis and Helen (Overfield) Thompson and Myrna was born on May 24, 1941 to the late Vernon “Dick” and Margaret “Myrt” (Hoffman) Ours.
Myrna met the love of her life, Don, when she was 15 and they married in 1957. They raised four children and were married for 61 years until Don’s death.
Don retired from Alcoa and Myrna devoted her life to raising her family. Myrna went back to school after her children were older and graduated from Vincennes University. Don and Myrna were very active with the Lions Club. They were screeners for the Kids Sight Vision Program, which Don helped bring to Southern Indiana. Myrna was also Director of Camp Friendship and a former Governor of the Lions Club. Don and Myrna hosted over 60 children from overseas with the Lions Club Youth Exchange.
Don was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Daylight, Knights of Columbus, St. Theresa Men’s Club and was head of the German Township Booster Clabber league. Don and Myrna loved clabber, were avid card players and enjoyed reading and bowling.
They were preceded in death by their parents, son-in-law, Joe G. Barning; granddaughter, Jennifer Marie “Jenny Lynn” Thompson; and great granddaughter, Joanna Mercy Moshos. Myrna was preceded by her brother, Lloyd Ours and brother-in-law, Paul Hotz. Don was preceded by his brothers, Fred Thompson and William “Bill” Thompson.
They are survived by their children, Roberta “Robin” Carter (Jeff), Vernon Thompson (Joanie); Cheryl Barning and Michaele McDonald (Russell); 10 great grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Myrna is also survived by brother, Lowell Ours (Linda) and sisters, Mary Helen Hotz and Barbara Ours Horton (Ed). Don is also survived by his sister, Pat Dunn (Bob).
