He was a US Navy veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War. He worked for Kent Plastics and was a member of Stringtown Community Men’s Club and VFW. Donald was an avid fisherman and loved camping. He was also a big sports fan, especially baseball, and formerly coached little league and pony league at Stringtown. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren play sports and cheerlead.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Bonnie Barrett; sisters, Ethel and Carol, and brothers, Charlie and Ray.
He is survived by children, Chris (Cheryl) Barrett, David (Jackie) Barrett, and Amy Barrett (Anthony Mortis); grandchildren, Jason (Sarah), Josh (Jennifer), Zach, Christopher, Ryan (Ashley), Aaron (Kendyl), Drew, Abrin (Jeremiah) and Lauren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Parkview Care Center and Southern Care Hospice for their special care and kindness.
Funeral Services will be10:00AM, Friday, October 14, 2016, at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Rd., officiated by Chris Barrett, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 4:00PM to 8:00PM, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the funeral home.
