Joe was drafted into the US Marine Corps and served for 23 years, and retired as a Gunnery Sergeant (gunny). He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He belonged to the VFW Post #1114. Joe most loved his family and his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed holidays with family.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Jessie and Jack Parkhurst; and his brother, Samuel Keown, Jr.
Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marietta A. (Camat) Keown; his father, Samuel L. Keown, Sr.; daughter, Melanie (Tim) Michaels; sons, Jared Keown, Jerry (Miranda) Keown; daughter, Rebecca (Joe) Sale; sons, Thomasjohn Keown, Allanjames Keown; grandchildren, Michael Rudisill, Kyle Michaels, Ethan Mills, Luke Sale, Chloe Sale, Jadyn Keown, Maliyah Keown, and Dominic Keown; sister, Patty (Kenny) Calvert; brother, Tony (Charla) Parkhurst; step-sister, Tresea (John) Cousert; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN, officiated by Preacher Jim Lane. Burial with military honors will follow at Alexander Memorial Park. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
