Cora L. Heumann

She married Mervin A. Heumann on June 16, 1940. While Cora was waiting for her husband to return from serving in WWII, she worked at Republic Aviation in Evansville. Later, she made many lifelong friends while working for The Baby Shop. She and her husband joined Zoar United Church of Christ in 1949, where she was an active member of the Daughters of Zoar, the Women’s Guild, and taught Sunday School for many years, as well as serving on the Board of Christian Education and Library Committee. She was also a member of the Vanderburgh County Farm Bureau and the Armstrong/German Apache Junction, Arizona, where many of their friends would often visit. She also made trips to New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii and the British Isles. Cora will be remembered as a gifted craftswoman and was well known for all the afghans she crocheted and gifted over the years; many of which she donated to cancer patients and residents of local nursing homes. She was an active member of the Young at Heart Club at St. Paul’s UCC and served as her church representative for the Goodwill. She moved to Solarbron in 2005 and continued to enjoy an active social life, enjoying Bingo games, Rummikub and participating in the senior games representing Solarbron for the last several years.

Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin A. Heumann, in January of 1996.

She is survived by a son, John S. (Katherine) Heumann of Evansville; daughter, Sheila A. (J. Byron) McCutchan of Athens, IL; grandchildren, Julie Faulds of New Albany, IN, Heather Woods of Menifee, CA, Lisa Clairemont of Goldsboro, NC, Eric McCutchan of Fenton, MO, J. Neil McCutchan of Athens, IL; and Lori Fickas of Dawson, IL; great-grandchildren, Joshua Faulds, Lauren and Jon Woods, Amanda and Matthew Clairemont, Alexander and Nicholas McCutchan, Isabella McCutchan, and Kaden and Trenton Fickas.

Her family would like thank the wonderful caregivers at Deaconess Hospital Hospice Unit for the loving compassion they showed during her last days.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Zoar United Church of Christ, 4600 Church Rd., Evansville, IN 47720, officiated by Pastor Tanya Schmitz, with burial in Zoar United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel and Thursday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
