She worked at Woolworths & Keller Crescent and was employed during WWII at Briggs where she assembled parts for the P-47 fighter planes. She was an avid walker, earning five first place and one second place trophies (1991-1996) in the annual Evansville Parks Foundation 5K walks. She was a member of T.O.P.S and St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Posey County. She supported her church and various organizations.
Clara Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley A. Schenk; sisters, Lorena Eckerty-Miller, Louise Kuebler and Elvera Martin-Esche; brothers, Elmer A. Kramer and Earl R. Kramer; daughters-in-law, Shelley (Smith) Schenk and Debby (Whitham) Schenk;.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Joe Schenk; daughter, Sandra (Bill) Esche; grandchildren, Jennifer Schenk, Tamara (Lee) Carr, and John S. Esche; and great-granddaughter, Avery Jo Carr; and step-great-grandson, Coby Whitham.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Eric Robinson, with burial in St. Peter’s United Methodist Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
