Charles William Riggs, 80 of Lakeland, died December 3, 2011 due to heart failure. Charles was born September 11, 1931 in Evansville, IN to Ralph and Myrtle (Neumaster) Riggs and moved to Lakeland in 1999.
Charles is a Korean War Veteran who served on the submarine USS Dogfish and is a life-member of the VFW, Evansville Post. He is also a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the Reed #316 Lodge, F&A M, Evansville and former member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and Shrine in Indiana. Charles was employed with the United States Post Office and retired in 1987. He continued working and was a self-employed clock repairman.
He was united in marriage to his wife, Faye, who resides in Lakeland. He is also survived by his son, Theodore Randall (Toni) Riggs of Valrico, FL; daughters, Laura Riggs of Madison, WI and Rebecca Riggs-Plymire of Portland , OR; brothers, Leroy Riggs of Bloomington, Robert and Lloyd Riggs both of Evansville; his sister, Helen Stofft of Evansville; and his five grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Riggs, Melissa Pokorney, Lauren and Lindsay Plymire.
Charles is preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and Andrew Riggs.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dale Beaver with burial at Sunset Memorial Park.
